Alien... thing...

An alien I sketched while waiting for the bus.

I liked it so much I decided to drag it into Photoshop and give it some colour.

And then shit went down when I started to build a whole sci-fi narrative around this creature, and now I want to start work on another story where humanity builds a giant city, the size of a country, around the first alien landing site, and for the past 100 years have been in discussion with these otherworldly beings over technology sharing.

These aliens are evolved more from seal like animals, and so need to be constantly hydrated and cool so they wear these special suits that keep their body temperature low and spritz them with water around the neck holes every now and then.

These aliens are pretty neat because they were a species that had been enslaved by another intergalactic race for, like, a couple of centuries, but were able to throw off their oppressors. Then after attaining the technology for light-speed travel they decided they they should be the envoys to other inhabited planets, warning the young cultures that lived there of potential colonization and enslavement, and they would share their technology with them to get them started on protecting themselves.

They were able to help about half a dozen planets this way but became stumped when they landed on earth. Humans are horribly primitive, and these aliens, who humans refer to as Selkies, want to help them, but they get this sinking feeling that humanity will end up becoming one of the colonizing and enslaving races, rather than peaceful. So the Selkies have been stuck on earth trying to deal with the human way of thinking and find a way to reverse this greedy nature, or whatever.
